Quilt of Valor

My husband was recognized today with a Quilt of Valor and I’m so proud of all that he’s achieved in his life. It is a great honor and we will proudly treasure this quilt as a symbol of service and patriotic pride.

Quilts of Valor was founded by a mother whose son was deployed in Iraq in 2003. Founder Catherine Roberts dreamt about a young man, a veteran soldier, awake on the edge of a bed struggling to cope with his memories of war. In a blink of an eye, the same man was cloaked with a quilt and in his expression, he found comfort and peace. In the words of Catherine Roberts, “The message of my dream was: Quilts = Healing.”

My husband, Lieutenant Commander Andrew Forisha, has served 17 years in the United States Navy in the submarine community. Submarines are secretive by nature so he doesn’t talk about the details of his service. He’s proud of his service, but he’s more inclined to talk about his love of education and mathematics. Today, he combines his service and education experience by teaching mathematics at the United States Naval Academy.

The Quilts of Valor quilts symbolize thanks, saying “Thank you for your service, sacrifice and valor in serving our nation.” On behalf of the Forisha family and my husband, thank you for recognizing his service.
